This amp is built like a tank - definitely an amp that measures up to a Matchless, Bad Cat or other Vox-like fire-breather.
Internally, the wiring is impeccable, clean, and well laid out. Externally, the quality continues in the well-executed ft and finish.
There is some wear here and there -see the pics for details. Someone used this amp regularly, but cared for it at the same time as it is used but not abused.
There is a decent amount of tonal flexibility - something you don't see so much of on other Vox voiced amps. The switches that open up some options are discussed below.
The speakers are purposefully mismatched to give you the best of both. This helps when recording or playing live. Mic each speaker independently for their individual tome. Speakers are a Celestion greenback and a G12 Vintage 30.
The amp sounds awesome. It has all the glassy, grindy tones you expect to get from a quad of EL-84 output tubes. The cleans are sweet and overdrive is big and brash. This is an amp that cuts through a mix!
The amp runs perfectly. All the tubes were tested to make sure they're good to go when you receive it. A nice cover is included as well.
Some discussion of the TopHat King Royale from the interwebs;
The King Royale K-35 Guitar Amplifier has two channels featuring high and low inputs. The first channel, with simple volume and tone controls, is derived from a classic Vox AC-30. The second channel comes from the classic Vox AC-30 "Top Boost" and features:
Volume, Treble, Mid, Bass, Master Volume. The King Royale's output section features four EL 84 power tubes (running in a Classic Class A circuit) and a cut control (reduces high frequencies in both channels).
One switch is labeled "Boost" and has three positions, Fat-Off-Bright. This varies the gain in the pre-amp section with "Off" and "Bright" having a lower gain structure than the "Fat" mode. The second switch labeled "Clean" also has three positions, Channel I-Normal-Channel II. This allows the player to clean up either channel of the amp.
Built with top-tier components and featuring a robust, roadworthy design, the King Royale is an amplifier that stands out both in the studio and on stage. Its rich sustain, articulate midrange, and glassy top end make it a favorite among tone purists and professional musicians seeking the depth and complexity of a true vintage-style amp. Whether you’re after classic rock crunch, bluesy warmth, or pristine cleans, the TopHat King Royale delivers with elegance, power, and unmatched musicality.

Shipping policy:
When you purchase this item you are hereby agreeing to this shipping policy. We remove tubes from amps that could be damaged in shipping. We remove the chassis from some amps so that the large transformers don't damage a chassis or cabinet. We remove heavy speakers from some amps so they don't damage baffles. These cases result in multiple box shipments, and they require the buyer to do some assembly on delivery. We do this because we have experienced shipping issues in the past, and this is our prevention measure. Vintage amps are sold as-is because they can need service intermittently. Everything is tested here in our shop on the way into our inventory, and again before shipping. We will cover shipping damage, but we cannot be responsible for the failure of vintage components in 20-to-50-plus year old amps. Shipments will require signature on delivery, no exceptions. If there is damage, the buyer must retain all packing materials intact and picture them immediately and send them to sales@maharsvintageguitars.com. Less than 1% of our shipments are damaged in transit, and we are committed to making sure your item arrives safely, but we are taking these additional measures to make sure you are happy with your purchase.
Buyer to pay prior to shipment via Paypal, wire transfer, credit card or other electronic means. Payment must clear before shipping. Certified checks and trades are accepted, however checks must clear before we will ship and trades must be received here and evaluated prior to shipment of our item.
All orders ship within three business days of the receipt of an order, usually faster. Tracking information will be automatically forwarded to all buyers. Buyers must retain all shipping materials in the event a return is necessary.
Returns accepted if the purchaser responds within 48 hours of receipt of an item and there is a discrepancy relating to the condition or originality of an item. Returns are not accepted for items that do not meet the needs or sonic tastes of clients due to the subjective nature, unless such concern is stated prior to the purchase. Any return for reasons other than incorrect advertising of condition or originality on the part of Mahar's Vintage Guitars shall be the responsibility of the buyer, which shall result in the buyer paying all shipping costs (to and from) their location.
