Description

In the 1970s Japanese manufacturers made lots of instruments that copied classic American guitars. These are commonly referred to as “lawsuit” guitars because the American companies forced the Japanese to cease and desist making such visually perfect copies of their guitars. This 70s Takamine is a Martin D-18 copy. Everything from the double bound body, black pickguard, and the tapered headstock with Martin-style logo just screams Martin.

This one appears to have a solid Spruce top. Back and sides look like well-grained mahogany typical of Martin dreadnaughts, but it’s undoubtedly laminated wood. Upgraded to Schaller tuners. It’s in good condition with a nice overall appearance and just the normal nicks, scratches, and dings that a well-played guitar acquires over a few decades.

Sounds really nice and plays well up and down the neck with medium low action. The neck is straight, there’s a bit of adjustment room on the saddle, and it has a functional truss rod, so this guitar should play well for decades to come.

This Takamine is good guitar in its own right and it’s value priced. A great grab and go, inexpensive but stageworthy guitar.
