1997 Ovation Model 1861 Standard Balladeer Cadillac Green
I first played this guitar with old strings and a bunch of dust on it, but immediately smiled because I knew what a hidden gem I was holding. A couple of chords strummed and back in the case it went, destined to be dealt with back at the Elk cave...
The thing about base-level Ovations is that whether you are a beginner or a seasoned professional, their guitars can and will serve you well in any situation. The electronics in this Balladeer allow you to carefully control the tone of the guitar and by miracles of all miracles, the newer battery compartment is present (no more battery boxes flying around the inside of the guitar during shipment.) To top it all off, "Cadillac Green" is one of the coolest colors ever attached to a guitar.
This Balladeer cleaned up nicely and a new set of strings later, it rings out like a bell. It has a great, tight sound and you will enjoy the low action, crisp OP-24 electronics, and reasonable price. There are a few light surface scratches on the face and a small scuff on the headstock, but they are not offensive to the eyes and the fretboard has been cleaned and oiled. The case is also clean and structurally sound.
