1953 Martin D-28 “Mystery Top” Brazilian Rosewood
In 1953 Martin made some D-28’s not using the Sitka that was standard at the time, which people describe as “Mystery Top” guitars. This is one of those guitars.
This is play ready..all the usually needed work has been done to this one by Dave Strunk.
Includes old Martin case with decals from the different locations it's owner visited.
·Nut replaced
·Saddle redone
·Neck re-set, Bridge replaced.
·Original Bridge plate.
·Pickguard replaced - it looks fantastic.
·An added top brace under the pickguard was removed by Brothers Repair. Brace was located on the treble side under the pickguard. This brace was not needed, so it was removed
·Guitar in the past had an oversized pickguard on the treble side. This has been removed. The neck was taken off the guitar to “re-set the neck. At that point, the treble half of the guitar top received finish touchup to restore the finish impacted from the larger pickguard. This work was performed by Rich at Brothers. This is an incredibly difficult finish repair to perform correctly, and Rich did an exceptional job pulling it off flawlessly. Other than some darkening to the spruce from the old finish issue, the new finish is blended in from the Bass side to the Treble side flawlessly. Virtually nobody can pull off a finish repair like this on a 65 year old guitar, but Rich did it. The pictures show the checking on the top bass side, which recedes where the new finish was applied.
Buyer will get the repair receipt.
·Refret was done before it was sent to Dave.
