Description

I have a soft spot for 45 series Martin acoustics. Their combination of vintage tone and incredible beauty make me weak in the knees. Offered here is Martin Custom Shop OM-45, number 1761116, which was built in 2014 and is in superb condition.

This 000-sized, 14-fret beauty has a 25.4" string scale. This example was constructed with hide glue. It has an Adirondack Spruce top matched up with 1/4" scalloped Adirondack Spruce Golden Era bracing. The back and sides are made from a gorgeous set of very straight-grained Madagascar Rosewood. The body binding, neck and headstock are bound in grained ivoroid. As one of Martin's top of the line guitars, this guitar is fully trimmed with Pau pearl and Abalone. The 14-fret clear neck has Martin's Modified V neck shape. The Black Ebony fretboard has a 16" radius, Style 45 Paua snowflake inlays and a 1-3/4" bone nut. It has an Ebony belly bridge with 2-1/4" spacing, a compensated bone saddle and Abalone snowflake inlays. The solid headstock has a Madagascar Rosewood overlay and gold Grover tuners. It has a 2-way adjustable truss rod and is fully finished in clear gloss.

While breathtaking to look at, it plays and sounds even better. It is setup with a new set of light gauge Elixir phosphor bronze strings and 12th fret string heights of 5/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side. It should appeal to fingerstyle or flat pickers alike.

This instrument has a voice that is vintage Martin; warm, woody and clear. Check out the brief sound sample provided for a taste of it's tone. The included video is of a very similar 000 model with the same tone woods and cosmetics, but is not the exact guitar being offered here.

This guitar is in excellent condition. It has some extremely light shirt button scratches that I was unable to photograph and a couple of tiny impressions on the top, the worst of which I've included a photo of. None of these issues can be seen except under intense lighting and from extremely close up. The frets show no observable wear and it comes with it's original Martin Custom case with the shroud and the spec sheet details as provided by Martin.

If you could find one of these in store stock it would cost you around $12K new or around $10K used. Get this lovely 2014 example for substantially less. Make this incredible 45 series Martin yours today!
