Description

Offered here is a great Martin, a 000-28 Norman Blake Signature built in 2006. This is number 230 of the approximately 330 that were built. If you like the look, feel and sound of vintage Martins, this is an instrument that should interest you.

This is a 12-fret, short scale (24.9"), 000-body guitar. It has an Adirondack Spruce top with custom pattern, 1/4" Adirondack Spruce bracing. The back and sides are East Indian Rosewood. It is modestly decorated with a black and white wood fiber rosette, herringbone purfling and a zig zag backstrip. The neck has a Modified V shape with a vintage style neck heel. It has a black Ebony fretboard, a 1-13/16" bone nut and custom snowflake pattern abalone inlays. The bridge is a Ebony belly style with a 16" radius, long drop-in bone saddle with 2-3/8" string spacing and fossilized bone pins. The headstock is a vintage style slotted square design with side mount Waverly/Sloane tuners and small ivoroid buttons. It is finished in polished gloss lacquer with a touch of aging toner on top.

This guitar should feel quite familiar to anyone who has had the pleasure to play a vintage 000 Martin. The neck isn't as big or the nut as wide as an older Martin, but otherwise this guitar feels and looks much like a vintage piece. This guitar has a clear, rich, "chimey" tone that you don't often associate with Martins. It also has particularly good resonance and sustain and the note separation is outstanding. It plays quite nicely too and is setup for fingerstyle play with 12th fret string heights of 5/64" on the low E side and 4/64" on the high E side with plenty of saddle remaining.

This is a great guitar and one that has seen it's share of play. It is in very good condition with a few mementos of play on the top, back and headstock (see photos). The frets remain in superb condition and I don't think this guitar has ever seen a flat pick as the pickguard is near flawless. It appears to have had a pickup installed at one time, as the original end pin has been replaced.

It's cosmetic wear aside, this is a magnificent Martin that plays and sounds well above it's price bracket. It comes in it's original Geib-style Martin case which is also in very good condition with just a few scuffs. Make this marvelous limited edition Martin Norman Blake yours today. You will be very glad you did!
