1968 Martin 0-16NY

These beautiful 12 frets came to fame in the early 1960’s. The 1961-77 period are the most coveted of the model. They have that folk era vibe that is hard to come by and harken back to the New York period of the Martin Company (Thus the NY designation) that is so desirable. The top is well aged spruce and the back and sides of the same age are mahogany with a beautiful pattern that is hard to find when you get outside this 1960’s period. In honor of the early New York period, she’s built with the open headstock. Both neck and headstock are crafted of mahogany. Unlike many of the other Martins of the time, these NY’s have a nice chunky, wider neck. That, coupled with the 12-fret neck give loads of room to move up and down the neck in a comfortable flash. Frets are in very good condition and the action is very comfortable. The tone is quite full, with a nice balance of low to high output. For an 0 size guitar this gal can boom it out, while at the same time work very nicely for a mellow, clean finger style sound. There is a filled surface crack on the lower front bout but there are no other cracks and no structural issues. It appears that the bridge was reglued at some point, but in excellent condition. For her 50 plus years of age, the finish is nice, with minor crackle and a scratch here or there. All parts are original. Comes in what appears to be original chipboard case. This is a well preserved, fully inspected and set up Martin and would be worthy of any serious player or collector.
