Description

Here’s yet another great vintage mahogany Martin parlor. We just sold one of these size-0 mahogany Martins recently. It was a 1958, so this one is is ten years older. A 1948 Martin 0-15 to be precise.

If you’ve played a modern all-mahogany Martin you know how warm and sweet they can be. Very different than spruce-topped Martins. Basically you trade off some power and clarity for more warmth and sweetness.

But we generally find the vintage Martin 15 series guitars to be more punchy and focused than the current models. This one is no exception. It’s a great sounding guitar that would serve the needs of many styles and situations.

This guitar has the sort of wear and tear typical of a vintage instrument that has been a solid player all its life. This guitar did not sit in a case or just hang on a wall (though it would look mighty nice on the wall of anyone’s studio or music room) and we find that well played vintage guitars are often the best sounding guitars.

It’s had a neck reset (so the action is perfect), bridge reset (for better intonation), a refret, a repaired top crack, and replaced tuners. There are numerous spots of missing finish, a patina of dings, and a large patch of contact wear on the back. There is also finish bubbling on the headstock, both front and back.

But the instrument is structurally sound and presents well visually. Check out the photos. This is a wonderful guitar and if you like the vintage look and sound as we do, this one could be for you.
