Description

A beautiful guitar attributed to Julian Gomez Ramirez, built around 1930, in very good condition.

Gomez Ramirez started out working as a luthier in Madrid for other guitar builders around 1892, date at which his name first appears in the ledgers. Around 1908, he moves to Paris where he sets up his own business, establishing himself as one of the first Spanish luthiers in France building Spanish guitars. He also greatly favored the instrument’s popularization in the country, both with his clients and with other soon-to-be luthiers, most notably Robert Bouchet whom Gomez Ramirez greatly encourage to start building guitars.

Despite there being no label formally tying this guitar to its maker, its origin is without doubt : this instrument was initially sold as part of Gomez Ramirez’s workshop contents. Additionally, all of the attributes of the instrument (the concentric circle motif around the soundhole, the decoration on the bridge, the shape of the head…), the technique and the quality of building are perfectly congruent with those employed by Gomez Ramirez.

From the highest grade woods used in its construction (spruce top, rosewood sides and back) to the tonal depth and balance of this guitar, it is a true testimony of one of the greatest periods of Parisian classical guitar making.

Complete professional setup done at our workshop, in perfect playing condition. In a period accurate hardcase.
