Description

Just in- 1944 (banner) Gibson Southern Jumbo- a very rare piece indeed. Banner Gibsons are spoken about in reverent tones for many reasons. A book entitled "Kalamazoo Gals" has even been written and published wherein the story of this era at Gibson is told. The Southern Jumbo was the top of the line flagship slope shoulder guitar of the Gibson line. But of course the SJ is far more than just a fancier dressed up J-45 with more aesthetic inlays and binding. The best woods including the top grade Adirondack spruce tops of the day were reserved for this expensive and scarcely produced model. You'd be hard pressed to find a banner era Southern Jumbo in better condition than this particular one. It is completely original parts and retains the original finish. There are no repairs or cracks except the seemingly requisite tiny pickguard crack so often seen war time large body guitars. This one is hard to imagine being set up any better as noted luthier Caleb Smith recently executed a neck set. The original case is housing this guitar and is included in the sale. 14,800 dollars.
