Red was a pretty common color in 1959 but only on the ES-355. Red wasn't offered on the 335 and 345 until 1960. Somehow, six ES-335's and eight or nine ES-345's have come to light and are among the most collectible of the ES models. It's not just the fact they are red but the red is different than the red used later from mid 60 until today. This red, like the red in a sunburst Les Paul, fades. They are commonly referred to as watermelons. This 59 345 has stunning color and subtle birdseye figure. It is in excellent condition. The gold shows moderate wear. The frets have been replaced and the guitar has been converted to mono and the Varitone removed (335 spec). The tuner tips are replacements as is typical for 59's. Original PAFs. Original brown Gibson case in excellent condition.
