Description

1923 Gibson A2-Z in very good condition. These are some of the finest sounding A style mandolins ever made and were only produced under the "A2-Z" moniker from 1922-27. Andy Statman famously played one nearly identical to this for many years. The black finish is a unique feature, not typical for this model. Close inspection reveals the more typical blonde finish beneath the black. It is likely that it was blemished in production and Gibson covered it with black. There is noticeable play wear but it was well cared for and is structurally perfect. We refretted this mandolin with medium wire. Constructed with a spruce top, birch back and sides, mahogany neck, ebony fingerboard and bridge. 1.14" nut width, .91" thickness at the first fret, 1.13" thickness at the eighth fret, and weighs 1.98 lbs exactly. Comes with the original hardshell case.
