Description

This 1964 Gibson Super 400 comes in its original custom “Blue” finish! Our mouths hit the floor when we first saw this one, as we’ve definitely never seen another! Thanks to some age and patina to the clear coat, the Blue on this guitar has taken on an even, green hue. Combined with the gold hardware and “confetti” pickguard, it looks unbelievably cool. It’s hard to miss the monogrammed letters on the guitar, tastefully done in Black and Gold paint that starkly contrasts the finish. This guitar was owned by a player named Horace Newton, as his name was written on the truss rod wrench’s envelope. After some research into the name, we believe this guitar may have been owned by a Barbadian jazz player of the same name, nicknamed “Mozart” by his peers for his proficiency in jazz guitar, piano, and theory. He spent some of his time in the US (New York specifically) and even immigrated to the country before ultimately returning to Barbados. While we can’t be 100% certain, there are too many similarities to ignore, so we have included his story inside the case. It’s another thing in this industry we’ll chock up to folklore! We have also included a copy of the Gibson ledger, showing this guitar as “Blue Special w/ Baritone.” This must’ve meant to say Varitone, as the guitar is equipped with a Varitone knob, and Baritone simply doesn’t make sense. We believe the kids are calling this a “typo.” This guitar is also in mono.

Overall Condition: 8, general playwear and aging make this legendary guitar even more vibey
