This Tremolux head is from early 1965, and is considered a Pre CBS amp as it bears the Fender Electric Instrument Co branding.

The transformers are all original, dating from late 64 and early 65.

The amp came to us in pretty tough shape, electronically.  Someone had performed some really poor work, replacing caps with odd values and seemingly chasing problems without a clue.

They had completely removed the tremolo functionality, perhaps frustrated as they tried to fix it.  They even removed the Speed potentiometer.  I replaced it with a 70's CTS pot from a donor Super Reverb chassis.  Some wiring to the pot had to be replaced.  Most of the capacitors and resistors in the tremolo section were replaced in the process as well.

The filter caps were replaced with quality F&Ts, the only work that was performed well before the amp got here.
I replaced all of the bypass caps with Sprague caps.  Only one coupling cap needed replacement.  I also updated the bias diode and cap after I found that the prior knucklehead had installed the diode backwards.
As I mentioned above, someone was chasing a tone issue here, and they tripped over it all the way, even adding shielded wiring between the tremolo channel input and the preamp.

In the end, replacing the out-of-spec, original grid resistors on the power tubes brought everything together - the last step I took in restoring this amp to the killer tone it is capable of.

Well, and I also replaced all the tubes.  The previous tech replaced the ungrounded power cable with a three-prong replacement.  I added a new footswitch for the tremolo.

The grille cloth was painted black, and there are vent holes drilled in the front baffle, under the grille.  The rest of the cab is in good shape and there are no holes drilled in the chassis.  The knobs are repro parts.  The handle and tolex are original, as are the corners and other hardware.  Screws on the back panel are changed.
