The term Holy Grail is much overused, but some guitars are truly special and this one is about as special as they come. Here we have a 1951 Telecaster and its thermometer case, both in wonderful all-original condition. Under seven pounds and with a super comfortable neck profile that these guitars are known for, this Telecaster is a real gem. The neck and body are stamped October 1951 and signed by the famous Tadeo Gomez.
Most people know the origin story of the Fender Telecaster. The first Fender guitars were produced in 1950 and included single pickup Esquires and double pickup Broadcasters. In 1951 Fender was forced to abandon the Broadcaster name due to a trademark dispute with Gretsch. In 1951, Fender dropped the Broadcaster logo from the headstock and produced guitars without a name which we now refer to as Nocasters. About 275 Esquires and 475 Nocasters were made in 1951.
Then in the late summer/fall of 1951 Fender started producing the first guitars labeled as Telecaster. Only 250 Telecasters were produced in 1951. This is one of them. We feel privileged to have been entrusted with finding it a new owner, someone who will appreciate owning and playing this magnificent guitar for years to come.
