Description

1982 Fender Stratocaster, American made in Fullerton, California! 1st version "Smith" Stratocaster. Original black finish in excellent condition, E2 serial number, beautiful rosewood neck. Weighing in at 7 lbs. 7 oz., has all original parts, a four-bolt neck with the small headstock and large decal, and a traditional strings-through-body Fender trem on a deeply contoured body. Standard Stratocaster three-pickup, three-knob config, with traditional slanted body-mounted chrome output jack, and a 5-way switch. In an effort as one could only describe as a futile anti-theft device, a previous owner did inscribe "Noel" and what appears to be a SocSec number on the neck plate (see photo) and on the back of the headstock (barely visible, see photo).

Some neck spex:
Width at nut 1.657 in. 12th fret 2.037 in. Thickness 1st fret .839 in. 12th fret .889 in

Original black-lined hard plastic case (41-1/2 x 16 x 4-1/2) has hinge that is broken the entire length of case. Currently held together with black fabric tape. All latches and handle work, though!

A complete fret level and recrown/redress, smoothing out of the rough fret ends, detail clean and polish, adjusting for intonation and playability, tightening of hardware, test and cleaning of electronics was done about a year ago; guitar has been untouched since. Restrung with D'addario 9s. A great looker and player for any Strat lover.

NOTE: Black guitars are incredibly difficult to photograph. Especially in trying to show all of the imperfections and getting a good balance on the white parts. In these photos, most of the body areas that show unevenness of color, white streaks or colored patterns are usually showing reflections. Any finish damages or imperfections of color are always addressed in text and shown in photos the best way we know how.

4/12/2024 ADDED NOTES: Took this one out for a spin at jamband on Wednesday night, and I must say, I was totally impressed. Sounded great through the '68 Bandmaster and my 80s GK 3/8th stack. Ran all the pedals, and, I must say, the Strat performed amazingly. It was the first time that I gave it a solid workout since the setup and fret dress, and it was a great ride. All the Strat sounds are there on the 5-way, and the neck plays great! Pickups sounded a little weaker than my stock '73, but the tones were perfect American Fender Strat in each position. I liked it so much, I jacked the price back up to where it was!
