Description

SN 53552. Rare martin OM-18 from 1933 with the chocolate-colored shaded top in excellent playing condition. Mahogany back and sides, Adirondack spruce top, forward-X scalloped bracing, ebony appointments and neck reinforcement, and light as a potato chip. Original clipped-back Grover tuning machines, early stencil or decal w/o black outline, ebony nut likely original but cleaned up, small position dots, simple and elegant b/w trim and rosette, black binding and heel cap. Bar frets, long scale, 1 ¾” nut and 2-3/8” string spacing at the bridge. On my watch she has had a neck reset, refret, new saddle, and two short back cracks repaired. There are a couple of areas of capo wear but not so deep that you feel them when playing. Original full height bridge reglued. All work performed by Dennis Berck in Eugene, OR. It’s as original an example as you’ll find, beautifully set up with low-medium action. The top is nice and fresh with an unusual playwear pattern and some dings and scratches. The back has buckle wear commensurate with its age. The insides are clean and original. It’s a lovely player with balance, clarity and articulation with nice volume. Comes with a newer hardshell case.

Jet City Guitars sells fine old acoustic flat tops, resonators, and the occasional electric. My web site www.jetcityguitars.com is open for business 24-hours a day, seven days a week. I do not intend to inundate the mandocafe with a ton of listings. I will try to rotate through a few things I think might be of interest to the constituency, sometimes prior to putting them on the JCG web site. No one likes to buy a guitar and turn it over to a luthier for six months. I typically make sure all the work has been done before I ship. So just about everything I sell has a fresh neck reset and more often than not, new frets. I will consider trades on guitars I own and do consignments for less than market. One additional note, if you access my listing through my site rather than gBase, the pictures will blow up much larger. I don’t know why. Thanks for looking.
