本モデルは"Roland"から"BOSS"ブランドのエフェクターとして'76年から販売された第1弾のモデルです。一言で言えるのはとても暖かく太いコーラスだということ。コーラスだけではなくビブラートモードも装備されており、ゆったりめのほどよい揺らぎからサイケデリック感溢れる派手めな揺らぎサウンドも得られます。ステレオ出力も可能ですを使用すれば、さらに広大な空間を演出でき、入力レベル・コントロール(high、low)によりギター以外の楽器にも対応できます。さらにCE-1の特徴一つとして、ディレイライン出力側のローパスフィルターがあります。こちらも人気機種ですがCE-2とは少し違い、CE-1のBBDはクロック周波数が低く、そのためローパスフィルターのカットオフ周波数も低く設定された為、高域の少ないマイルドなコーラス効果になっているとのことです。やはりこのモデルにしか出せないサウンドを持っているという理由があるからこそ、これぞ"コーラスの名機"と言えるのではないでしょうか。
